"Obsidian"

"Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.And then he opened his mouth.Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me.You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is."
I recently read “Obsidian” by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It was a bookworm's dream. This book is not one I would typically read. Aliens? They’re just not my thing, major turn off for me. BUT LET ME TELL YOU! This book was AmAziNg. Haven’t you ever wondered what your life would be like as a YA novel? (I mean who HASN’T). Well, in Obsidian, Katy gets to see that whim fulfilled when she moves to a teeny tiny town in rural West Virginia. She expects her senior year to be boring and uneventful… boy was she in for quite the shock. Odd things start happening pretty quickly, does it have to do with the hot boy next door? Or perhaps his twin sister? One thing is for sure everything is not as it seems in this town.
Now we get to my favorite part! I am simply obsessed with the main character, Katy. WE. GOT. SOME. TRUE. BOOKWORM. REPRESENTATION. You might be double questioning me right now, but stick with me. Katy is a BOOK BLOGGER!! Her blog is named “Katy's Krazy Obsession” and she does everything from book unboxings to book reviews on it! This book was written before the bookstagram era but if it was 2019 I’m certain Katy would be a bookstagrammer. It was absolutely heartwarming to read a book with a character I could relate to completely. She makes multiple references to fictional worlds, constantly is raving about the book she is currently reading and is just an absolute down to earth bookworm! (Haha is that a pun, down to EARTH bookWORM.)
Not even going to lie you need to read this book solely for the bookworm representation. But if that’s not enough to convince you…. I present to you the speed round, where I lob the awesome features of this book at you. Without further ado, BOY NEXT DOOR, MYSTERY, ROMANTIC TENSION, *cough* BOOK BLOGGER *cough*, MURDER. I leave you with one final note, I’m off to binge every single series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and so should you.
