"The Lunar Chronicles"

Once upon a time, in the future... The Lunar Chronicles are futuristic retellings of classic fairy tales. In CINDER, a teenage cyborg (half human, half machine) must deal with a wicked stepmother, start a rebellion against the evil Queen Levana, and decide how she feels about a handsome prince. As the series continues, Cinder forges alliances with Scarlet, a spaceship pilot who is determined to solve the mystery of a missing loved one — with the help of a magnetic street fighter named Wolf; Cress, a computer hacker who is imprisoned by Queen Levana; and Winter, a princess who's in love with a commoner, and who discovers that Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress may hold the key to saving her kingdom — and the world.

It’s so hard for me to write about this book without giving any spoilers. I LOVED this series. It’s not one that I would normally of read…the space travel, cyborgs, androids, and alien species? Not usually my thing. But I trusted the librarian who recommended it to me.

I was instantly intrigued, the series is loosely based on fairytales. The first book Cinder is based on Cinderella, second book Scarlett was based on Little Red Riding Hood, third Cress based on Rapunzel and lastly fourth Winter based on Snow White. Among that the series is set hundreds of years in the future after the fourth world war, the moon has aliens living on it whom earth is trying to make peace with but power hungry queens are not willing to agree. Throughout the series you get the story from multiple points of view. Hovercrafts, Wolf-men, lost princess, these books have it all.

There are multiple layers of mystery in this action packed series. There are only two real problems I had after reading this series. Its a little ridiculous having so much wrapped into the last few chapters. And precisely how some of it gets resolved really? Not a good really or bad really just “Really?!” The problem I had was how predictable it was. No specifics because that would be a spoiler.

All together the four books made for a great series (Along with the prequel Fairest and a Lunar Chronicle collection Stars Above). These books had more than enough mystery and action to suit me.
